NEW TRANSMEC UK FLEET GETS SEAL OF APPROVAL FROM MP
Thursday 11th December 2014
A £640,000 fleet upgrade at Transmec UK has received the seal of approval from a Member of Parliament’s Select Committee for Transport.
MP Karen Lumley took a close look at the first of eight new trucks, supplied by Guest Truck and Van, during a tour of Transmec’s depot in her Redditch constituency. The top of the range IVECO Stralis Hi-Way vehicles form part of a rolling three-year upgrade policy at Transmec UK and the wider Transmec Group which operates 250 trucks internationally.
John Simkins, Transmec UK’s country manager said: “A regular replacement strategy works well for us in terms of minimising our impact on the environment, while ensuring that we continue to offer a fast, reliable and secure service to our customers. It also enables us to minimise our running costs, so it’s a win-win approach.”
Transmec UK, which also has depots in Bradford and West Thurrock, provides bespoke logistics services across the UK and Europe in addition to operating scheduled transport direct to 11 countries. The company is the market leading operator between the UK and Italy which is home to the Transmec Group headquarters.
“Our fleet travels the length and breadth of Europe so we were pleased to hear how the Transport Select Committee is striving to modernise the UK’s infrastructure to ensure it keeps pace with the rest of the continent,” added Mr Simkins.
Mrs Lumley, who has served on the House of Commons’ Transport Committee since October 2012, said: “I was amazed to see the scale and logistics of the operation at Transmec and to see their impressive new fleet which I'm sure will enable them to continue to go from strength to strength."
