Iveco crowned Large Goods Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year at GreenFleet Awards 2016

Iveco has been named Large Goods Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year at the GreenFleet Awards 2016, seeing off competition from rival manufacturers to clinch the coveted title.

The GreenFleet Awards, organised by GreenFleet magazine, aims to showcase all that is “green and good” in the UK fleet sector. More than 250 fleet professionals gathered to celebrate environmental efficiency at the event, and awards were presented in 20 different categories, showcasing the best in environmentally-friendly vehicles, products and services, as well as green fleets and fleet managers.

Taking place at a ceremony at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium, the accolade recognises Iveco’s outstanding achievements in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and increasing fuel economy in the truck sector, with the manufacturer’s natural-gas powered New Stralis Natural Power (NP) – the TCO ? Champion – receiving particular praise from GreenFleet.

The judges said: “Having to produce ‘green’ large goods vehicles is not easy, but this year’s winner Iveco has surpassed itself with the New Stralis NP, which some are calling the ‘greenest truck the world has ever seen’.”

The New Stralis NP won over the judges with its suitability for both long-distance, low-emissions logistics and high-volume urban and inter-urban distribution. Indeed, Iveco says the New Stralis NP provides operators with the opportunity to make their entire supply chain even more
environmentally-friendly.

Stuart Webster, Iveco UK & ROI Business Director, says: “The New Stralis NP is the culmination of many years of research and development into alternative fuels, and to see the vehicle recognised for its game-changing potential is very rewarding. We’re delighted that our hard work to cut CO ? emissions and save on fuel costs has been recognised by GreenFleet, highlighting Iveco’s mission to be a partner for sustainable transport.”

The model is one of an extensive range of alternative fuel vehicles offered by Iveco, and is powered by an ultra-clean 8.7 litre Iveco Cursor 9 Natural Power engine. What's more, the engine is also
50-75 per cent quieter than its Euro VI diesel engine equivalent, reducing noise pollution by 3-6 dB in comparison with other trucks in the same performance class.

The Cursor 9 Natural Power also reduces CO ? emissions by as much as 95 per cent compared to diesel-powered equivalents, when fuelled with compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquid natural gas (LNG), making it perfect for environmentally-minded operators.

The large capacity of the New Stralis NP’s fuel tanks lengthens the range of the LNG-only version to a massive 1,500 km, which it achieves while offering the same payload capacity as its diesel equivalent. As a result, the New Stralis NP is also ideal for long-distance missions, whilst also reducing the need for regular fill-ups when operating both regionally and in cities.

The New Stralis NP is also the first natural gas-powered truck to feature a 12-speed EuroTronic automated gearbox, which guarantees lower fuel consumption and greater driving comfort across all road transport operations, from long-distance to urban.

Just one of many improvements introduced in the New Stralis NP, the EuroTronic gearbox contributes to a 3 per cent reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to the previous model, aided by the significant reduction in fuel costs versus diesel.

Meanwhile, the New Stralis NP’s simple after-treatment system uses no AdBlue, no particulate filter and no SCR or EGR.

Iveco has extensive experience in the commercial vehicle Natural Power market. The company has delivered more than 15,000 gas-powered vehicles into service already – comprising vans, trucks and buses.
