Mobile Freight Win Yet Again!

2016 must go down as being the Crowning Glory Year in the long history of Mobile Freight Services (Midlands) and its founders David and Janet Jolly.  David and Janet have been married for over 35 years and set up Mobile Freight in 1982 with the purchase of 2 used vans operating from their home in Solihull.  Soon after, they opened a small unit in Highgate before moving to a larger unit in Stechford, Birmingham.  Several years later they outgrew this site and moved to Birmingham International (Cargo) Airport before expanding and moving again to their newly owned site at Mobile Freight House in Minworth, Sutton Coldfield.  The new site is ideally located just minutes away from both the M42 at the Belfry / NEC / Birmingham Airport Junctions and the M6 at Spaghetti Junction giving them immediate and fast road links to the North, South, East and West.

Mobile Freight have always specialised in the distribution of air freight, developing strong links with both Birmingham International Cargo Airport and East Midlands Airport freight terminals.  Mobile Freight currently run a fleet of 42 vehicles ranging from 3.5t to 38t GVW.  66% of these vehicles are Iveco, with an Iveco product in every weight sector.  This year alone Guest Trucks have supplied Mobile Freight with 4 x Iveco Daily 35S13 chassis cabs, 7 x Eurocargo 75E16S day cabs, 2 x Eurocargo 180E25S day cabs and 1 x Eurocargo 180E25S high roof sleeper cab.  This week Guest Truck and Van delivered a New Stralis AS440S46TXP Hi-Way tractor unit to complete a clean sweep supply of the Iveco Daily, Eurocargo and Stralis product range in a single year!!

The relationship between Guest Truck and Van and Mobile Freight has been an incredibly strong one built over 27 years with at least one new vehicle being supplied by Leyton Jones, based at Guest Truck and Van Wolverhampton in every one of those years.  Leyton met David and Janet Jolly in August of 1989 and it’s been onwards and upwards ever since.  Leyton said “it’s been an absolutely pleasurable relationship, growing to be more than just business and even friends, it’s always felt more like family.  Back in the early nineties Janet sold SMA baby milk for a few years and gave me all the dented and sample tubs of baby milk powder for my own two young babies at the time.  You could say my own family have been fed and brought up on Mobile Freight!”  David Jolly and Leyton Jones both share the same birthday of 10th April and in recent years most of their truck purchases have been funded by Iveco Capital’s Paul Hadley who spookily shares the same Birthday of 10th April.

If David Jolly has been the engine of Mobile Freight, then Robert Foley, General Manager, has been the battery.  Rob just makes the operational aspects of Mobile Freight tick like clockwork.  Rob has been with Mobile Freight since day one and was the driver of the second used van, with David driving the first.  Within a year new drivers were employed allowing David and Robert to move into the office so beginning the story of Mobile Freight.  Robert has shown incredible loyalty and has always been a fundamental part of a formidable team.  In recent years Ian Jolly, David and Janet’s Son, has joined the business as Commercial Director Senior Partner, bringing a fresh, new and dynamic approach.  Ian is married and with his own third Generation of very young Mobile Freight Directors growing up fast.  Ian has one younger sister, Sarah, who is pursuing other interests outside of the business, whilst also keeping David and Janet busy as glowing Grandparents.

In 2015 Matthew Marriott joined Mobile Freight and was appointed as Managing Director.  Matthew has many years’ logistics and transport experience not least with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.  Ian and Matthew introduced Mobile Freight to the Pallet Track Network of palletised freight and groupage deliveries, successfully bringing a whole new dimension to the business which has just exploded into life.

Over the years Guest Truck and Van have supplied Mobile Freight with numerous Ford cars, Ford commercials, Fiat Professional commercials and the entire road haulage range of Iveco products.  Guest Truck and Van supply Mobile Freight with an impressive stock of day-to-day Iveco service parts and many of their Ivecos have been on full repair and maintenance contracts looked after by Guest Truck and Van, Aston in Birmingham, creating strong links and bonds.  This includes a 3 year Iveco PMC full repair and maintenance contract on the new Stralis Hi-Way tractor unit delivered this week.  Martin Birch, General Service Manager and Paul Sullivan, Service Manager, at Aston know and understand the needs of Mobile Freight and work closely with Robert Foley to keep the wheels turning.

2016 has been an incredible year for Mobile Freight winning them two very prestigious awards.

First they won Motor Transport’s Livery of the Year Award for 2016 presented in July at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.  The livery was a completely new design and brand, created by Ian Jolly and so Mobile  People.Powered.Logistics was born.  The Motor Transport judges said the livery is “instantly eye-catching” as well as “bold, bright and with good use of colour”.  Adding “it conveys a clear message about who the company is and what it does.”  David Jolly said they had no idea they had won until it was announced on the night commenting “it came as an unexpected surprise” but the beaming smiles of David, Ian and Matthew on stage with TV and radio legend Jonathan Ross said it all.

Then on Saturday the 26th of November, Mobile People.Powered.Logistics picked up its second national award.  This time it was for growth, winning the award for the Most Improved Sales in the Pallet Track Network.  This time Ian Jolly and Matthew Marriott were presented with the award by another TV personality, Bobby Davro, alongside Pallet Track Chairman, Jon Allen, at the Pallet Track Gala Dinner at Whittlebury Hall in Northamptonshire.  The award is a further endorsement for the company’s growing reputation as one the Midlands leading Transport & Logistics organisations.

Robert Spittle, Guest Truck and Van’s Group Managing Director – Operations, said “David Jolly is a true gentleman of the logistics industry, having built an enviable business which is a true testament to his efforts. We are proud to have David, Ian, Matthew and all the team at Mobile as customers, this year has been a great year for us both and I look forward to continuing to work together in the future.”

“On behalf of Guest Truck and Van I would like to congratulate and thank Mobile Freight Service (Midlands) for all their support and business over the past three decades and wish them all the very best for a long a prosperous future.”
