Guest and Sherwood Showcase Environmentally Friendly Electric Vehicle
Thursday 4th May 2017
Guest and Sherwood have showcased a new environmentally friendly electric vehicle at the UK’s biggest commercial vehicle trade show.
The IVECO Daily Electric - a 100% electric vehicle with zero emissions - has been unveiled for the first time at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC, Birmingham.
Robert Spittle, managing director of Guest and Sherwood, said: “Air quality is one of the most important issues facing the industry, with low emission zones already operating in five cities in England and increasingly being introduced across Europe. Offering a sustainable, electric vehicle alternative is essential for the heavy goods vehicle sector - for both sustainable and economic reasons.
“The Commercial Vehicle Show is the ideal platform for unveiling the IVECO Daily Electric vehicle and we’ve already had a huge amount of interest about it. Innovative alternatives to older diesel vehicles are absolutely essential as we play our part in reducing nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide levels in our towns and cities.”
The West Midlands is one of 38 out of 43 areas in the UK that fails to meet legal air pollution targets, which were set by the European Union and should have been met by 2010. Public Health England estimates that nearly 1,500 people in the region die prematurely every year from air pollution. These include 520 deaths in Birmingham, 198 in Sandwell, 173 in Dudley, 155 in Walsall and 139 in Wolverhampton.
The IVECO Daily Electric is available as a van, chassis cab, and minibus, with gross weight vehicle (GVWs) from 3.5-tonne to 5.2-tonne, and wheelbase lengths from 3,000mm to 4,100mm. The vehicle has a highly efficient battery system and electric auxiliary, which means reduced energy consumption. Its silent running feature also enables night-time deliveries in urban areas.
IVECO also manufactures an award-winning Daily Natural Power line-up, which runs on either compressed natural gas or liquid natural gas. All IVECO’s new models are developed from a diesel-engine platform, which means power, torque and response are the same as a diesel vehicle.
